Now here’s a classic survival horror. I didn’t play the game when released but started playing a few years later. I could never get into the original The Evil Within. People rave about it but it was a game that was just not for me. I felt the interface lagged behind the on screen action and made the game seem slow. Now part of this could be the fact that I still have older i5 hardware with NVidia 1030 graphics card, which are truly ancient in this present age but not so ancient when The Evil Within originally released.
But, The Evil Within 2, I am getting into, runs great after some graphics twiddling, and I’m really starting to enjoy the game. I’m just a few levels deep within the game at the moment but I will definitely be completing this playthrough. The combat, exploration, and existing lore are all great draws and unlike the original The Evil Within, I’m enjoying The Evil Within 2 and is another game I was able to download as part of the XBox Game Pass subscription I have.
From mastermind Shinji Mikami, The Evil Within 2 is the latest evolution of survival horror. Detective Sebastian Castellanos has lost it all. But when given a chance to save his daughter, he must descend once more into the nightmarish world of STEM. Horrifying threats emerge from every corner as the world twists and warps around him. Maybe when I get a better computer and video card I will once more try to get into the original The Evil Within to learn first hand about the lore. But for now The Evil Within 2 seems to be checking all the boxes for the type of survival horror I like.
